HARVEST SACRAMENTO – HARVEST GROUP LEADER TRAINING
TRAINING LOCATION – Fruit Ridge Community Collaborative in South Oak Park – 4625 44th St., Sacramento, CA 95820
Join our region wide volunteer community and growing network of neighborhood harvest groups, and help us realize more of the potential of the Sacramento area neighborhoods to provide fresh fruit to families in need.
Our group leaders engage volunteers in fun, inspiring, and productive experiences that meaningfully contribute to the well-being of local communities by enhancing food security, reconnecting residents and the land together, and cultivating the foundations for a renewed community food system.
This training will include both “classroom” and hands-on “field” experiences that will help prepare you to coordinate and lead small harvests in your neighborhood, as well as to lead a harvest group at one of our big citrus season events, which occur between January and March each year. During the 2017 citrus season harvest leaders led over 700 volunteers in gleaning nearly 40,000lbs of fruit from local fruit trees!
You’ll also learn more about the broader food system work of Soil Born Farms and our collaborative network of urban agriculture and food access partners who are working together to transform food access in the Sacramento region.
