The Yisrael Family Urban Farm is #transformingthehoodforgood using urban agriculture engage, employ and empower our community.
We’ve teamed up with Unsung Heroes Living History Project to raise funds for Project GOOD.
Project GOOD which stands for Growing Our Own Destiny, is our youth development and mentorship program.
We base our curriculum on urban farming. Farming is the theme that connects our activities, outputs, outcomes and goals into an integrated process of youth development.
By engaging in activities within the realm of urban farming, youth create wellness in their lives, become leaders, and celebrate community and culture through food.
We will spend 50 hours with a cohort of youth over the summer and each youth that completes the program will receive a stipend. In addition, each youth will get healthy meals prepared from farm fresh produce.
We held our first info session on June 7th and it was packed to standing room only. We were overwhelmed with the response and want to make sure we can accomodate all the youth who apply.
Last but not least, we will be taking a couple of last years participants to Denver in July for Slow Food Nations to speak about what we do in Sacramento as well as meet other young people from around the world concerned about our food system.
Here is a breakdown of some of our costs.
Youth Stipends including healthy lunch for 10 days = $7000
Slow Food Nations
Transportation = $2000
Room and Board = $2500
Food = $1500
Total = $11200
We need your help in raising $7700 more.
