We are the SNAP-Ed/CalFresh Healthy Living program at the local health department level and we’re hoping to conduct nutrition education in schools using the Harvest of the Month curriculum in select elementary school classrooms. We would like to identify potential vendors to subcontract with to provide prepared classroom samplers of the various produce highlighted in the curriculum once per month during the 2019-2020 school year. We’re open to any variety of the produce highlighted so that our youth can experience the look and taste of locally grown fruits and vegetables that will encourage them to seek out more through their parents. Our goal is also to tie this effort to increase access in the community of fresh, locally grown produce in retail markets around the schools we target. Our healthy retail program, Refresh San Joaquin. is also dedicated to work with the vendors to introduce their produce with the small to medium stores that we have been working with in improving accessibility to healthier foods and beverages in the community.
